A family that works on the Zuleta Estancia. Ecuador, 2003. I went to Zuleta twice, the first time with my friend, Val from Jackson who is an avid horsewoman. I fell in love with the place and the people so, in 2004, I went back with some other horsewomen friends.

One of the women preparing a wonderful dinner for us at Zuleta, 2005. Zuleta Hacienda is run by Fernando Plaza, the grandson of a former President of Ecuador. The hacienda is a colonial working farm, 4,000 acres, in the Andean Mountain range that dates from the late 16th Century. It produces milk and cheese products as well as vegetables from a sustainable farm about which Fernando is very proud. The hacienda translates all the waste food into mulch for the vegetable beds.

Macizo del Paine, the Central Massif of the park.

The famous Mirador Torres of Torres Del Paine, Patagonia. It took us three days to get up here to the base. Grueling hike, but the view from here was worth it. We slept in tents at Camp Pehoe and spent the second night in the Refugio, all six of us sleeping on bunk beds in a tiny room. We spent the evening sharing our only bottle of wine and talking about our kids.
